Idris Elba Covers ‘The Source’; Addresses ‘Thor’ Controversy
It is definitely a no-brainer that ladies love Idris Elba! With his new film, Thor, in theaters in less than 2 weeks, The Source magazine is featuring String Bell (as some may know him as) on the May issue.
Elba has played many characters in his career from his Notorious drug lord days (HBO ‘The Wire) to preacher, a detective, an American Gangster, and now his role as Heimdall in the Blockbuster smash, Thor.
What is Elba’s key to success? He tells Source, its “versatility”.
In the May issue Idris Elba addresses the controversy caused by his character’s race, producing for Jay-Z and his evolution as an actor.
When the May issue ‘Fear of God: The Ascension of Idris Elba’ hits newstands on May 2, be sure to flip the pages to see the tribute to the late Nate Dogg, and the exclusive interview with Prodigy as he speaks on his prison bid, the preceding decade of personal and professional turbulence and his new focus.
Tyler Perry Has Ruffled Idris Elba’s Feathers
Spike Lee isn’t the only actor/director that’s not a fan of men dressing up as women in Hollywood. During a recent Q&A in Rutgers University, the subject of Tyler Perry vs Spike Lee came up. Idris has this to say:
“Can I be candid? I don’t like all of Tyler Perry’s films. Yes, I did work with Tyler for “Daddy’s Little Girls” because it portrayed a positive image of a black father. I am happy for Tyler’s success…we need Tyler Perry…by going to support his movies, we need to show economic strength. But we are also responsible for elevating film. I’m not with buffoonish characters like Madea or Big Momma.”
I can slightly understand where Idris is coming from, but at the same time, what Tyler and Martin are doing is entertainment. I wonder if any of this “buffonary” is coming out now since Tyler Perry beat him out in a new film?!?!?!?
T.I.’s ‘Takers’ Take The No. 2 Spot
T.I., Chris Brown, Idris Elba, and more didnt “take” the number 1 spot at the box office, but they weren’t far away at number 2.

Based on weekend estimates, the horror film The Last Exorcism grossed an estimated $21.3 million at 2,874 locations, enough to narrowly edge out Takers, which came in at No. 2 after earning $21 million at 2,206 theaters, according to studio estimates.
Congratulations!
